This full-day excursion to Salinas Grandes, San Antonio de los Cobres and Purmamarca is one of northern Argentina’s most photogenic routes. From Salta, the road follows the famous Train to the Clouds route through Campo Quijano and the Quebrada del Toro, crosses Santa Rosa de Tastil and its archaeological site, then climbs towards the puna and its almost lunar landscape up to San Antonio de los Cobres.
After lunch, the white immensity of Salinas Grandes offers an almost unreal contrast between salt, sky and reliefs. The descent of the Cuesta de Lipán (highest point around 4170 m) then leads to Purmamarca and its famous Seven Colors Hill. It is a dense and spectacular day, ideal for travellers seeking a strong visual experience.
